Last December, several environmental not-for-profit organizations were represented at an annual meeting of the American Geophysical Union: a scientific conference of over 30,000 earth scientists from around the world. The posters that were shown highlighted work being done right here in Mamakating, from looking at ways to make water contaminant monitoring more inexpensive to bringing together environmental groups, from cutting-edge environmental DNA work to radio-based networks of environmental sensing stations, this work took place throughout the town along the Shawangunk Kill, Bashakill, and Neversink River. Join us at the Mamakating Library to see what we’ve been up to, and how you can get involved in the citizen science and monitoring work that we’re pioneering right in your backyard.
